Allen is often asked if the people and places she portrays are from a bygone era. Her reply is, “This is the West today, a place where neighbor helps neighbor and where the work doesn’t end when the sun goes down.”
Allen’s paintings are stories; they begin by looking directly into the sun. With details obscured, a strong, iconic silhouette serves as the starting point. Bold forms are the centerpiece of her work, including high contrast images and scenes captured on location at ranches and rodeos.
Allen’s work is included in museum, corporate and private collections nationwide and represented by top galleries for over a decade. Maura Allen’s studio is in Denver, CO.
